Usually silent, it can suddenly “go rogue” and mutate into the deadly disease feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Here are the four things every cat parent wants to know, distilled in one quick read:

1️⃣ How it spreads – fecal–oral route; multi-cat households are high-risk
Main pathway: virus-laden feces → shared litter boxes, food bowls, queen grooming kittens, even airborne dust.
Environmental survival: weeks at room-temperature; 1:32 diluted bleach is required for complete inactivation.
Key points:
– FCoV is highly contagious (many cats carry it for life without signs).
– FIP itself is NOT contagious; only mutated virus inside an individual cat causes disease.

2️⃣ Clinical spectrum – from “zero signs” to “lightning-fast death”

90 % of infections: no symptoms or mild self-limiting diarrhea.
<10 % after mutation:
– Wet FIP: abdominal/thoracic effusion, balloon-like belly, deterioration in 1–2 weeks.
– Dry FIP: uveitis, neurological tics, visceral granulomas; slower course.
Once clinical FIP appears: untreated mortality >95 %, hence the nickname “cat cancer”.

3️⃣ Treatment reality – no licensed wonder drug, but an underground “miracle” exists
Officially: no FIP-specific vaccine or approved antiviral worldwide.
Frontline experience:
– GS-441524 / remdesivir (nucleoside analogues) → 84-day protocol for wet FIP gives 80–96 % survival, yet costly and requires daily sub-cutaneous injections.
– Supportive care only (abdominocentesis, plasma, IFN-ω, steroids) buys short-term time.
Legal gray zone: GS drugs are still “research-use” in China; owners procure through special channels at their own risk.

About this test

Positive Result: Red bands appear in both the test line (T)and the control line (C).

Negative Result: Ared band will only appear in the control line (C) on the result window.

Invalid Result: If there is no red band in the control line (C), the result is invalid. After tearing the aluminum foil bag and taking out the reagent strip, it should be used as soon as possible within 1 hour to prevent the reagent strip from getting wet.

4.Temperature has a great influence on the test results. All used consumables, test pad and other wastes should be put into medical waste bags and disposed of properly in accordance with local regulations. The desiccant in the aluminum foil bag cannot be taken internally.

5.Observe the results within the specified time. lf the reaction time is too long or too short, the test results may be affected.

6.Only the sample treatment solution in the kit can be used in the test, do not use tap water, purified water and distilled water.

Test steps are as follows

This product does not require any additional equipment and is used for in-vitro qualitative screening for Feline Coronavirus (FCOV) antigen in cat feces.
